Susan's Story, The Black Sea & Holy Lands
We explored Piraeus on Sunday and a combination of a Metro & bus strike along with heavy cold windy rains caused us to stay on the ship on Monday. Today we boarded the hop-on hop-off bus and ventured to Athens. We had visited the usual sites such as the Olympic stadium & Parthenon extensively in the past and looked forward to shopping in the Placa and visiting other historic sites. The economic problems with the Greek Debt has caused trash to not be picked up, transit strikes, and for us horrible traffic & closed roads due to the demonstrations. The overall mood in the city was bad. A much more taxing day than we had imagined it would be. Definitely not one of our favorite areas or peoples to deal with. At least they use Euros. /susan
